Automated Demand Response

Incentives for Participating in Demand Response Events.

Earn incentives for voluntarily reducing energy use during those times when demand for electricity threatens to outpace supply, and energy prices are high.

  • No-cost/low-cost Demand Response and program energy management hardware via Automated Demand Response incentives
  • Free technical services to identify Demand Response opportunities and install load control technologies

Two ways for Ag operations to participate:

  • Automated electric controls (highest incentive rates): Utility sends demand response event signals to Ag operation, triggering automated (via technology), pre-programmed demand response actions
  • Semi-automated controls (lower incentive rates): Utility sends demand response event signals to Ag operation, alerting the customer to manually initiate pre-programmed demand response actions

Most Ag operations are able to participate:

  • Incentives of up to $400 per kilowatt of demand response load reduction
  • Qualifying technologies include wired/wireless controls for lighting, HVAC, motors, pumps, fans, air compressors, and process equipment, plus new Energy Management Systems (EMS) and repairs/upgrades/reprogramming of existing Energy Management Systems and load controls
  • Demand response events typically occur on weekday afternoons between 12-6 p.m., May - October
  • Ag operations must have Internet access and a 15-minute interval meter that can be read remotely by PG&E or a SmartMeter™ electric meter
